HOW TO STOP ANXIETY AND FEAR FROM A NEUROLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE
I agree with everything Carla said in the video and would like to add a few observations given my background in neuroscience and the study of epigenetics. Although anxiety is a part of who we are and has a message for us, our real goal is to increase our coping skills or transform the condition altogether so that it doesn’t overcome us so violently that it ruins our lives. Understanding the sources of anxiety can be helpful, as Carla suggests, however, all the knowledge and self awareness in the world doesn’t necessarily change anything. It just gives a person a really good idea of the “who, what, where, when and why”. So, when do you get out of therapy and get a life? When you understand how your mind works, in particular your subconscious mind, and work with it so that you change your beliefs and perceptions that impact your life at a cellular level, so that real transformation can happen?
There are many paths to healing, such as the breathing and visualization techniques that Carla guided us through in the interview, however, all paths have to navigate through the “roadblocks” of the subconscious mind. “Often, the subconscious mind is like a mine-field of limiting beliefs and old, outdated ‘programs’. These limiting subconscious beliefs affect all aspects of life: relationships, self-esteem, financial prosperity, career choices, and health. Only by clearing a safe path through these ‘roadblocks’ can you reach a new place of expanded potential in your life and finally dissolve anxiety. “ (PSYCH-K® Centre International)
Carla’s explanation of sleep hygiene is extremely important, especially from a neuroscience and epigenetics perspective. Carla strongly encourages us to treat ourselves gently when we wake up and wind down before bed, so as to calm our minds instead of bombarding ourselves with social media and other common distractions, which lead to stress and anxiety. When dealing with the common fears Carla mentioned (judgement from others, being “enough”, being successful enough and being loved), Thomas Edison gives us great insight: “never go to sleep without a request to your subconscious." The reasons why you want to get a handle on the state of your mind first thing in the morning and when you wind down for bed are to not only reduce stress, but to direct the workings of your subconscious mind and program it for optimal health, wealth, and happiness! This is what dissolves anxiety and fear.
Finally, Carla notes that most people buy a book, read it, and then leave it to collect dust on their bookshelf. I agree. It’s important that we not only get real information, but we put into practice real tools and actions steps towards change.
Underneath the anxiety, fear, and worry is your soul yearning to express itself more fully. The answers lie within and it’s about learning how to use the power of your mind instead of your mind using you.
